Pregnant Cat and Family Dumped in a Crate on the Side of the Road

Fat Dog Ranch Board Member, Jenny Spencer, noticed an abandoned crate off of Hwy 14 Turquoise Trail at the end of August. Inside, with no food or water, were two young adult cats, one pregnant female and one male of the same age (about 9 months old), and two 4-month old cats. We brought them home and named them Donna Summer, Kevin Bacon, Elizabeth Fraser and Simon LeBon. Donna had seven healthy kittens about a week later and now we have many adorable orange and calico kittens to find homes for! We will keep the four older cats here at Fat Dog Ranch. Spay and neuter and shots will be scheduled for Donna and Kevin soon. We will never understand some human beings indifference to suffering.

In Memoriam - Moose

Our beloved Moose, the mascot of Fat Dog Ranch, passed away in August at 14 years old. We adopted Moose from a rescue in West Virginia as an 8-week old puppy born to a pregnant, abandoned hunting dog. From the time he was a puppy, Moose was a stunningly handsome and regal boy and people would often stop their cars when we were walking him to comment on how beautiful he was. As we rescued more and more animals, Moose became "big papa" to them all and was gentle and patient with the tiniest chihuahua to the rescued pigs. There are no words for the hole in our lives his passing has made. But we are at peace that he never suffered from fear or hunger or loneliness a day in in his life. Rest in Peace sweet boy.

In Memoriam - Belinda Carlisle

Belinda passed away from a failure of her pancreas in August 2025 a couple of weeks before Moose's passing. Belinda was our little baby dog for one year almost to the day and went from a severely emaciated, blind, and untreated diabetic stray to a playful, sassy, center of our universe. Getting Belinda back from the brink of death to a thriving dog was a team effort of love (and lots of veterinary costs!) and we grew extraordinarily attached to her. One thing is for certain: her year at Fat Dog Ranch was full of love, safety, and constant attention from so many people, including our brilliant veterinarian Dr. Crystal Clark at Western Trails Veterinary Hospital. We miss Belinda every day, still, and feel blessed to have known her beautiful soul for a while. Rest in Peace, Belinda.
